Tommy Dominguez secured the acquittal for his client charged with stalking Paula Vennells, the former CEO of the Post Office, following a successful half-time submission of no case to answer.
The Crown alleged that the Defendant stalked Miss Vennells whilst working as a press photographer by taking photos of her home address, placing a tracker under her vehicle and following the vehicle thereafter.
Following the cross-examination of Miss Vennells, Tommy successfully persuaded the Court that there was no case to answer. Relying on established principles in the case of Dowson v Northumbria Police [2010] EWHC 2612 (QB), Tommy made submissions that the conduct alleged was not oppressive given the nature of the Defendant’s employment coupled with the public interest and notoriety behind the Post Office scandal following the televised drama series, Mr Bates vs The Post Office. The Judge accepted the submissions and the Defendant was acquitted. The Defendant maintains his good character.
Tommy was instructed by Iain Lancaster of Panesar & Co Solicitors.
