Simone Newton secured the acquittal for her client charged with Handling Stolen Goods.

The Crown alleged that the Defendant was party to a joint enterprise whereby he dishonestly undertook or assisted in the retention, removal, disposal or realisation of a stolen vehicle.

The Crown sought to rely upon the Defendant being found within the vicinity of a stolen vehicle, with witnesses unable to identify the driver of the vehicle or the number of occupants within.

Owing to a lack of evidence, Simone carefully drafted an application to dismiss. Simone’s representations culminated in the Prosecution ultimately concluding that there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction and thereby offered no evidence. At Woolwich Crown Court, the Judge entered a not guilty verdict.

Simone Newton was instructed by Denika Swack and Deborah Spence of Spence and Joseph Solicitors.
