Rebecca Bax and Emily Lauchlan attended the Youth Justice Legal Centre’s fantastic advocacy training, held for pupils and junior barristers.
The interactive course was delivered by leading youth justice practitioners Shauneen Lambe, Aika Stephenson, Kate Aubrey- Johnson and Katya Moran.
The two full day sessions provided up-to-the-minute legal updates and a comprehensive understanding of the Youth Criminal Justice System and its constituent parts.
All four practitioners were highly knowledgeable and detailed the complex connections between the various youth criminal justice agencies.
The sessions were also significantly enhanced by the attendance of four young people who had personally experienced the youth justice system. Attendees were afforded the rare opportunity to directly ask these young people ‘how can I do my job better, for you?’ as well as engage in role-play scenarios with them.
