Peter Marshall, led by Pippa McAtasney KC of Furnival Chambers, secured acquittals on counts of murder and manslaughter on behalf of DW at the Central Criminal Court on 13 May 2025 after a 6-week trial.
The defendant was tried with his son and a close family friend with the brutal murder of a next-door neighbour’s friend following the breakdown of a relationship between the two families after it was alleged that the neighbour had raped this defendant’s 14-year-old daughter.
The defendant was a 44-year-old man of good character who was alleged to have given assistance and encouragement to the attack on the deceased with machetes that resulted in 12 severe injuries, leading to immediate death.
Peter was instructed by Gerard Kinch of Ewings Solicitors.
