Firearms & Explosives

Our members are often the counsel of choice to prosecute and defend some of the most serious firearms offences in the country.  We are well-versed with the highly technical complexities of the current state of firearms legislation and have the expertise to know when it is necessary to instruct an expert to address whether any particular weapon meets the definition of a firearm or prohibited weapon.

When defending these type of allegations, we recognise the importance of DNA evidence and were instructed to defend in the first 4+ profile contributor mixed DNA result based prosecution at the Central Criminal Court in 2018 in the context of a conspiracy to murder where there was a protected jury.

Our experience of working with offending related to explosives includes defending Damon Smith who left a viable bomb on the London Underground [link].

Several members of our chambers were also instructed to represent a number of individuals who created gas explosions to blow open ATM machines [link], that lead to the Attorney General’s Reference nos 74, 75, 76, 77 and 78 of 2014 [2014] EWCA Crim 2535, 2014 WL 5599528.
