Notable Crime cases

  • R v Whitlock March 2022 MURDER [prosecuting]

On the first day of his trial at Newport Crown Court Lee Whitlock pleaded guilty to the murder of Bob Farley who was his best friend. He had beaten him over the head with a hammer. He received a life sentence.
This was the conclusion of a 6 months’ work by South Wales Police, who produced an extremely professional electronic evidence presentation that drew together video/audio/witness evidence and forensic evidence. Richard, who was led by Stuart Trimmer KC, consulted with the police at a relatively early stage and was able to advise the police as to tactics, strategy and evidence management. The defendant was un-cooperative with the court and his legal advisers throughout the lead up to the trial and was expected not to attend his trial. In the event he did and entered his guilty plea. His reasons for his plea will never be known, but to an extent it must be presumed that the overwhelming case prepared against him played a part in that decision.

  • R v Smith & Vilhete December 2020-Janury 2021 MURDER [prosecuting]

Richard was led by Stuart Trimmer KC in this challenging case which involved a killing using a samurai sword. Much of the evidence was audio confession evidence that was caught by CCTV cameras at the house to which the defendants fled after the killing. Most prosecution witnesses were drug addicts who required careful handling.
    Smith was convicted of Murder.
