Matthew Jolliffe began his first six pupillage under the supervision of Matthew Kirk in October 2024.
Matthew graduated from the University of Winchester in 2023 with a Bachelor of Laws, receiving a Dean’s award for his services to the student body, before commencing the Bar Practice Course at the University of Law in London. He was elected as the Debating Officer of the Middle Temple Students Association.
As an undergraduate he volunteered with Spurgeons, a children’s charity, working with prisoners and their families to help them maintain relationships during their sentence.
During the Bar Practice Course, Matthew also volunteered as a caseworker at Bail for Immigration Detainees. His role centred on assisting vulnerable clients detained by the Home Office in prisons and immigration removal centres by preparing bail applications before the First-tier Tribunal. As a result, he has gained experience in how the criminal justice system impacts foreign national offenders, along with a broad set of client care skills.
Matthew is particularly interested in building a practice with foreign national clients and cases involving national security aspects.
