Davina Mootien

Davina has been in chambers since 2005, starting her career defending and prosecuting criminal cases, from the Magistrates and Crown courts, including the Old Bailey, to appearing in appellate courts.

Her experience includes defending medical professionals involving vulnerable complainants, multi- handed conspiracy trials involving violence and fraud. She prosecutes on behalf of various authorities including the CPS, DWP, Probation, RSPCA, Trading standards and is a member of the SFO’s panel B.

Davina has extensive experience in prosecuting multi- handed, complex and lengthy trials having been led on numerous occasions by King’s Counsel, and dealing with complicated areas of evidence, disclosure, and LPP. She has also worked in the field of public inquiries, including the Al- Sweady Inquiry which investigated allegations that UK soldiers mistreated and unlawfully killed Iraqis in 2004.

In the last 5 years, Davina has focused on disclosure and LPP work, having been instructed by HMRC and the SFO.

Davina has trained professional witnesses on giving evidence in court and also gives talks to postgraduates and undergraduates about life at the Bar. She takes an active role in pupillage from recruitment to continuous professional development.

    Led junior prosecutor for Suffolk Trading Standards in mutli handed conspiracy to defraud and money laundering, involving European Arrest Warrants, complex legal argument, and voluminous jury bundles.
