Azra Khan

Azra Khan practices primarily in Criminal law, with her extensive experience coming from her time Crown Advocate (level 3) for the Crown Prosecution Services. In her 25 years in the CPS, she has prosecuted wide ranges of offences including serious violence, dishonesty and fraud, drugs, robberies and inquisitive offences and burglaries.

Azra practices in the Crown Court, Magistrates Court and the youth court. Known for her through preparation and analytical approach, she has achieved many favourable results – making her both liked and respected by her professional and lay clients

In private practice she has been diversifying her practice to include regulatory offences and serious traffic offences. She has dealt with the sentencing of many serious cases including dangerousness determinations, dealing with legal argument including those for abuse of process, res gestae and disclosure.

Azra has recently joined the temporary Prosecution Advocates Panel and has been conducting PTPHs, sentencing, trials and Bail Appeals for the Crown Prosecution Service.

Azra speaks Urdu and Punjabi languages fluently.

Notable cases


R v CM (Kingston Crown Court)

Female driver charged with causing serious injuries by dangerous driving. Defendant was acquitted after trial as the jury was convinced that the standard was not so far below the test for dangerous driving.


R v S (Croydon Youth Court)

14 year female charged as aider and abettor as part of a 4 handed affray case. District judge was persuaded that in line with decided case law, the defendant was not an aider and abettor but with the wrong people in the wrong place, together by circumstance of being on the same bus.


R v V&A (Bromley Magistrates Court)

2 defendants charged with non-compliance of S215 notice. After trial the District judge was persuaded that the defendants had complied with the S215 as much as possible but that the council was changing the goal post by adding to the original requirements more onerous standards.


R v L (St Albans Crown Court)

Successfully prosecuted 20 year old defendant who was claiming that he was victim of modern-day slavery and claiming the S45 Defence and therefore compelled to be the “gardener” in a factory containing nearly 5000 juvenile marijuana plants.


R v W (Luton Crown Court)

Prosecution of female defendant charged with assault emergency worker by biting officer’s finger.
